Description

A Water Pollution Law regulates fees for discharging wastewater, exemptions for certain user groups and reductions for recycled water. It applies to all private entities and public entities that discharge wastewater.

Function

The law puts forward a system to regulate direct and indirect discharges of pollutants in the water. It has the aim to to restore and maintain the chemical, physical, and biological integrity of a country's waters.

Example: The Mongolian Law on Water Pollution

The Mongolian Law on Water Pollution defines water pollution as an alteration of the natural composition of water and the consequent deterioration of its quality as a direct or indirect result of human activity. The law establishes the imposition of sanctions on individuals, economic entities and organisations for illegal discharging of wastewater and other practices of water pollution. The law further establishes a system of fees collected to finance a fund that is employed to support the reduction of pollution and the treatment of wastewater.
