#59: Joint financing and realization of hydraulic works

Description

This instrument is based on a contract between central government, river basin confederations, regional governments, and/or local entities for joint financing and/or joint realization of hydraulic works.

Function

The costs for large investments in hydraulic works can often not be covered by a single institution, often making necessary a joint effort by a number of organisations / authorities. The financing of the hydraulic works can be covered by a mix of private and public entities as well as a mix of local, regional, national and international organizations.

Example: Agreements of joint financing and realization of hydraulic works in Spain

In the Guadalquivir basin in Andalusia, Spain, contractual agreements between the Spanish central government (General State Administration), the regional government, local entities and river basin organisations have been set up. Their aim is to establish the sharing of responsibilities in the financing and/or the realization of hydraulic works.
